The PRÉSENCES project is the structuring and recurrent initiative set up by Centre SAGAMIE to promote the integration of the next generation of artists in the visual arts field with the professional artist-run centre milieu throughout Québec.

Eight Quebec artist-run centres have joined forces to increase the presence of emerging artists, curators and writers in their regular presentation and production programs:

  • daphne, Montreal
  • L'Œil de poisson, Quebec
  • Regart, Lévis
  • Vaste et Vague, Carleton
  • Caravansérail, Rimouski
  • Skol, Montreal
  • Centre SAGAMIE, Alma

The Présences project program

6 exhibitions will be presented, each grouping 5 emerging artists
1 video program will be presented, grouping 5 emerging artists/filmmakers
35 emerging artists will be welcomed for research/creation residencies

In all, 35 emerging artists from all regions of Quebec will be selected, along with 7 emerging curators and/or authors who will be able to present their vision through exhibitions scattered across the province.

More details

Each of the L'Écart, L'Œil de poisson, Regart, Vaste et Vague and Skol centres will organize a group exhibition, each featuring 5 emerging artists. The theme of each exhibition will be developed by the artistic direction of each center, in close collaboration with the curator or author selected by each center.

The daphne center will organize an exhibition dedicated to emerging indigenous artists in collaboration with an emerging indigenous curator or author.

Caravansérail will be hosting a video program featuring 5 emerging artists/filmmakers.

Centre SAGAMIE will offer a research/creation residency to the 35 artists selected.

Centre SAGAMIE will present the 6 exhibitions and video program organized by the 7 other centers.

This call is open to artists, curators and writers from all regions of Quebec. We especially invite artists from marginalized groups to apply.

* Definition of emerging artists, curators and writers:
Must be 35 years old and less, or older with 5 year or less of professional practice.
MFA students and graduating BFA are also eligible.
