Since art is a dynamic that is played out between two people (artist/spectator), Bouchard considers the question of responsibility and, by extension, that of competence, aptitude and good faith, both in the exhibitor and in the observer. The projects L'affable / dramatisation, Jouer au docteur / Be A Specialist presented in this book were an opportunity to bring together the professional worlds of health and art. The artist draws a parallel between the feeling of vulnerability and powerlessness that arises, in each field of activity, from the experience of being a subject of examination and having to submit to the gaze and judgement of the observer.

Carl Bouchard

Carl Bouchard was born in Ville de la Baie, Quebec. Since the early 1990s, he has presented several solo and group exhibitions in Quebec, Canada and France. We should highlight not only the investment of this multidisciplinary artist in the spectacular installation Les pleureuses -oublier par don-, presented at the Notre-Dame-de-Jacques-Cartier church during the first edition of the Manif d'art de Québec (2000), but also his commitment and audacity in Jouer au docteur / Be a specialist presented at Le Lieu, centre en art actuel, in Québec City (2004), as well as l'affable / dramatisation presented at L'écart, Lieu d'art actuel, in Rouyn-Noranda (2008). He has completed eight public art projects and his works are part of numerous museum, institutional and private collections in Quebec. He is president and founding member of the artist-run centre Le Lobe in Chicoutimi (1993) and a founding member of Ateliers d'artistes TOUTTOUT in Chicoutimi (1997). Since 1998, he has been developing interdisciplinary joint projects with artist Martin Dufrasne in parallel with his individual practice. Photographs, installations and performances have been presented in some twenty exhibitions and special events in Quebec, Ontario, France, Colombia and Wales.
