New Environments: Approaching the Untouchable

Molior is an organization specializing in the production of large-scale exhibitions and artistic projects at the intersection of art, science, and technology. “New Environments: Approaching the Intangible” is one of the most prolific and ambitious projects Molior has undertaken to date. Born out of a desire to create an exhibition that visitors could experience in virtual reality, this project explores the shifting boundaries of art, where the tangible and the intangible meet. This book documents the works that were presented at various venues across Quebec.

Curator Nathalie Bachand featured exclusively independent artists working in the visual and digital arts. From the very beginning of the project, a central question arose: how could an exhibition be designed to be experienced entirely in virtual reality, without having to switch headsets between works? Far from being merely a matter of form, this challenge aligned with Molior’s very mandate, as the organization works, in collaboration with curators, to explore different modes of presentation.
