Centre SAGAMIE is displaying Emmanuel Lagrange Paquet's works on the imposing wall of its stairwell. For the first time, we have taken over a space that we have long felt would be interesting. Let's hope that this reception area will be able to exhibit the work of contemporary artists more regularly.
The project was conceived during the artist's research/creation residency. Trans mutation(s), La bataille d'Alma is a series of images that delves into the interpretation of historical narratives through the prism of artificial intelligence. Far from simply reproducing history, the work transforms it, particularly here in the context of the fictional Battle of Alma. This project merges retro-futurism with visual elements rooted in our heritage, exploring how iconic events, such as the Battle of Alma in Crimea (1854), can be transposed into a reinvented Quebec context. Here, blueberries replace soldiers, and the theater of battle becomes that of a fiction where the past mingles with a technological and poetic vision. The goal is to destabilize history by offering a new reading through a futuristic and imaginary prism.
This work is part of a broader reflection on how the past can reinvent itself without losing its identity, by opening a dialogue between cultural roots and technological developments. It is not a break with history, but rather an extension, a shift in which traditional narratives are pushed into unexpected territories.
