Rooted in an observation of the natural mechanisms in our environment, my current research exploration is guided by a love for life systems. In this vein, I began to develop installations that seek to express, somewhat naively, the essence and complexity of nature, rather than demonstrating an incapacity to live in symbiosis with it. I am interested in the shifts that it undergoes when humans try to imitate or express it.

During my residency at Centre SAGAMIE, I will begin developing my project L’indomptable that is primarily dedicated to an investigation of milkweed, which is both fascinating and misunderstood. This exceptional plant is too frequently considered to be a weed. I will set out to work with it based on an understanding of all its capacities and whims.

Philippe Allard lives and works in Montreal. His works have been shown in individual and group exhibitions in Canada and abroad. He is particularly fond of site-specific interventions that dialogue with their surrounding architecture and the urban fabric. Over the last fifteen years, many of his projects have received support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (among which the current project, L'indomptable) and the Canada Council for the Arts.
