Mathieu Grenier lives and works Montreal, Canada. He holds a B.F.A. in Visual and Media Arts from the University of Quebec in Montreal (2011). In 2019, he was invited to take part in an exchange program with the Royal College of Art in London. In 2020, Grenier graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with an M.F.A. in Studio Art: Photography and media. Through a practice that involves installation and photography, Grenier experiments with techniques that extend photography from its 2D surface. Through images that have a physical presence, he makes photographic installations combining alternative processes and various commercial outputs of photography such as UV printing, latex inkjet printing and metal techniques to make works that emphasizes on the viewers perspective by giving multiple points of view to the works. As we are in a digital era, Grenier is interested in our relationship to the screen and how we perceive images. His current research focus on imaging technologies and how it structures our perception of photography in western culture.

Mathieu Grenier had solo exhibitions in Canada, France, United States of America and in the United Kingdom. He has been awarded the 2014 Charles Pachter’s prize for Canadian emerging artist from the Hnatyshyn Foundation. Mathieu Grenier’s work has been supported by the Canada Art Council, the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec. He is represented by Blouin Division Gallery in Montreal and his works are found in numerous public and private collections in Canada and France.
