AM Dumouchel

Gatineau

AM Dumouchel lives in Gatineau.

She has a sculpture, installation and photography practice, in addition to teaching art on both sides of the Ottawa river.

Forgoing the traditional camera in favor of alternative photographic methods, such as the outdated Polaroid, digital manipulation, the photocopier, the cyanotype, appropriation of images from the Internet and scanning, she aims to push back photography's boundaries by methodically constructing each of her works in the form of digital collages. Extracting the manipulated digital image in the form of a proof printed on paper—or other physical medium— is a recurring feature of her practice.

In response to a world that has fallen prey to the power of images, communication technologies and data, her artistic practice is the channel through which she explores the workings of human experience in the age of the screen. Through her work she has found a way to make sense of several themes linked to the concept of metamorphosis, such as rupture, death and, more recently, global upheaval.

Under her pseudonym Marquise de Méricourt, she illustrates heavy metal album covers.

Marie-Pierre Gagnon

Saguenay

By archiving social media articles and photographs of everyday life, I create collage works comprised of images and poems that translate a regional reality, while also making it possible to synthesize complex theories. In a Kitsch world that draws inspiration from a media-induced image overload, everyday visual pollution and self-reference, I offer playful perspective on various aspects of our society. Be it criticisms of the art world, psychology, consumer society or political ideologies, I emphasize the absurdity of extremes.

Born in 1997 in Saguenay, Marie-Pierre Gagnon is an interdisciplinary artist who does not hesitate to use pop culture as a means to unpack complex theories and make them more accessible by way of installations and pictorial works. After graduating from the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi in 2022 with a BFA in interdisciplinary art, she was awarded a creative residency at the Centre de production en art actuel Touttout. Alongside these pursuits, she has taken part in several group exhibitions at Le Lobe artist-run centre, Galerie L'Œuvre de L'Autre and Galerie du collège d'Alma.
