It is not easy to categorize Sophie Castonguay's practice. Sophie is at once an artist, author, researcher, professor and engaged citizen. Like most artists, she seeks to unfold our perspective on the world, but above all to point out its folds and to thus cherish the opacity of the world. With this in mind, she attributes a crucial role to the artist: that of transforming his or relations to the world and others. Her art projects have been presented in several Quebec exhibition centres (Dazibao, Skol, Praxis, Dare-Dare, SBC, AXENÉO7, Verticale, Vidéographe, Optica) in Canada (Fado, Third Space, GNO) and Europe (Hangar in Barcelona, Projektraum54 in Basel, FIAC in Paris). She holds a doctorate in Art Studies and Practice from the Université du Québec à Montréal and has been teaching at École des arts visuels de l’UQAM since 2008 as well as at the Cégep de Saint-Jérôme since 2015.
