Center SAGAMIE invites you to the opening of the exhibition by Ysé Raoux and Mathieu Lef Bouchard on Thursday, October 13 at 5:00 pm. This event will be held as part of the Creation Duo Diffusion project and will be the second duo exhibition of a series of three, throughout the fall of 2022. This duo is presented in partnership with Regart center d'artistes en art actuel.

Mathieu Lef Bouchard and Ysé Raoux present the exhibition Raime encore, which retraces the path taken during their residencies and exhibitions as part of the Création Duo Diffusion project. Based on the use and reuse of materials, this exhibition brings together the two artists' universes towards a shared poetry. Raime encore is an attempt to awaken our sensitivity to what was, what is and what is still. Through image, sculpture, video and text, the two artists propose a dialogue to change the paradigms of their respective mediums and materials. Mixing decomposing plants and construction scraps, Ysé and Mathieu seek to draw from all facets of the materials used in their experiments to show their plastic and poetic potential. Thus, we find elements already present in their creation residency that took place at Centre SAGAMIE in December 2021, but in several forms.

Driven by the desire to explore and experiment, the two artists propose a contrasted universe, with a reflection on the life span of materials and on the investment of the place by these elements.

Ysé Raoux

Ysé Raoux holds a MFA (Université du Québec à Chicoutimi) and is interested in the notion of landscape, in relation to the still life genre. Driven by a desire to create paintings in which the plant is the central element, Ysé works with photography, sound, video and sculpture through immersive installations in which the mediums dialogue together. Her works are based on a highlighting of the plant's state and its spatial placement. The resulting intersection makes it possible to reveal an apparatus that prompts contemplation. The plant has a metaphoric character, it invites viewers to reflect on their own condition through the intermediary of works that magnify the state of decomposition. In proposing a reflection around the degradation of the plant, Ysé Raoux raises questions about the evocation of death inside her works.

Ysé Raoux's work has been part of several group exhibitions at the artist-run center Le LOBE and the gallery l'Œuvre de l'Autre in Chicoutimi. Ysé Raoux has also completed a creative residency followed by an exhibition at the Chapelle des Cuthbert (Berthierville). Recently, her exhibition Être précaire was presented at the center d'art actuel Langage Plus (Alma). Several works are part of the collection of the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi. Ysé has been working as a communications officer at the artist-run center Le LOBE since 2019.

Mathieu Lef Bouchard

Mathieu Lef Bouchard's practice is situated somewhere between installation, video, video performance, sculpture and sound art. His work is only a trace of the conceptual links that he puts in place in a physical, temporal and psychic relationship. Through improvisation, Mathieu develops poetic devices to reach levels of perception of reality that go beyond him. Through his practice, he attempts to transcend his own existence with the intention of elevating what is common to him. Mathieu Lef Bouchard is inspired by his daily wanderings to nourish this intuitive process that he links to life and to the existence of things.

Originally from Saint-Romuald, Mathieu Lef Bouchard has been practicing art since 2013 in parallel with his college studies. It is through his interest in theater, improvisation and music that he finally chose to focus on visual arts. Through his practice in photography which occupied more than 4 years of his career, Mathieu Lef Bouchard will see himself transpose his interest for photographic staging to the video medium, performance and sound art.
