The deterioration of memory, encroaching through zones of absence, is the basis of my current practice. My research is centred on the creative function of absence as well as on its regenerative side. To this end, I gradually turned towards a creative process that stimulates memorial reactivation. The goal is not to recall the totality of buried recollections but rather to unveil their regeneration in the present instant, at the moment of their reactivation. To find another way of looking, of dwelling on other details. Clearly, absence makes itself felt slowly when the metamorphosis of recollections takes place over time in our memory. Forgetting is essential here. Nevertheless, my recollection process, as well as the revelation of these memorial slivers before the viewers, introduces absence as a means of transmission. A form of writing that, in the case of my works' production, in a way ensure the persistence of a memory. In this approach, something resembling disaster arises, leading the shared memorial fragments to their ruin.

My current production is structured between an artistic and scientific laboratory. A photographic and videographic exploration is thus set into motion via the recuperation of archives, all the while submitting them to chemical baths. A crystallization then appears, taking place as a material that destroys and creates zones of absence.

Aires de création project

Dorine Goergen's exhibition at Galerie L'Œuvre de l'Autre:
January 12 to February 2, 2022

Aires de Création project allows artists to carry out a research/creation residency at Centre SAGAMIE prior to the distribution of their work in one of the project's partner exhibition centers:

  • ARPRIM centre d'essai en art imprimé (Montreal)
  • Centre d'art Jacques et Michel Auger (Victoriaville)
  • Centre national d’exposition (Jonquière)
  • Galerie L'Œuvre de l'Autre (Saguenay)
  • IQ L'Atelier (Alma)
  • Langage Plus (Alma)

Initiated by Centre SAGAMIE, this program favours the implementation of a chain of collaboration between the centers, in order to support and disseminate the artists' projects. This project is made possible thanks to the contribution of each partner artist-run centre and the financial support of the Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean Territorial Partnership Program under the Partnership Agreement between the CALQ and the MRCs of the region.
