Micro-publishing residency for Tryphon, le cachalot du Saint-Laurent, an upcoming project to the Regional Museum of Rimouski, October 2022.

Tryphon

I read the stories and
scientific observations
like the lines of the palm
I see your seasonal visits
in this plundered river
pilgrim fisherman explorer
your sunflower fin
has tattooed our imagination.

Saint-Laurent

Big gaping mouths
the industries regurgitate
they spill their poisonous gall
heavy metals
in breast milk
dizzy
the whale calves stagger
to the future.

Cynthia Girard-Renard's thematic free associations open up spaces of poetic reflections where humour and urgency intertwine for a fleeting instant. She touches on various subjects, such as the planet's ecological future, the precariousness of national or gender identities, the absurdity of austerity measures, among others. Girard-Renard thus mobilizes satire and poetry to play on everyday hierarchies by imagining timeless worlds in which animals, unicorns and great historical figures meet in imaginary settings to discuss the future, utopia and freedom.
