Visual Substances

This publication is elaborated around the photographic work of Pascal Dufaux realized with his videokinetic sculptures since 2005. This book, of a hundred pages in color, is articulated around the photographic trace of the human body captured with the help of the vision machines built by the artist. The book is made up of a large selection of hyperpanoptic portraits taken from the cataloguing of the Autour de vous project, made between 2005 and 2008, as well as the most recent corpus of photographic images entitled Infrarouge avant la nuit, produced during a creative residency at the Centre Est-Nord-Est, in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli, Quebec, Canada.

The series Around You is elaborated in the manner of a vast personal undertaking to map the human surface, a way for the artist to move towards the other while keeping the distance of an explorer, a bit like a cartographic satellite orbiting around its subject. The series Infrared before Night is a more dreamlike dive, turned towards the landscapes and people the artist met, among whom he landed his observation probe on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in the summer of 2012.
